Common Features
Integrated Scanning
Both Pocket PC and Palm OS scanners use Symbol's
integrated SE900 laser scan engine. This high performance laser
is bright enough to read barcode labels outdoors! The scanner is
quick and responsive and labels can be read from a variety of distances
and angles.
Graphical User Interface
Both mobile scanners offer the ease of use
of a graphical user interface. Drop down lists, buttons, text boxes,
and tables can be displayed on each unit's large touch screen display.
The Pocket PC scanner is even available with a brilliant 64K color
display.
On-board Data Validation
Both units feature the ability to carry onboard
databases containing data that can be matched against the data that
is collected during the scanning process. This significantly reduces
data collection errors and erroneous scans. The scanners can be
programmed to recognize valid part numbers and alert the user when
errors have occurred at the time of scanning. This results in accurate
and efficient data collection.
Effortless Uploading/Downloading
Symbol's Palm Scanners use Palm's HotSync technology
to upload and download data between the scanners and the host database
system. The Pocket PC scanners use Microsoft's ActiveSync technology,
which is similar in functionality to the Palm solution. To start
the synchronization (upload/download) process with the Palm scanner,
you place the scanner in its communications cradle and press the
HotSync button. With the Pocket PC scanner, all you have to do is
insert it in its cradle and the synchronization starts automatically.
Either way, what could be easier?
Internet Capable
Both mobile scanners have the ability to synchronize
their data with their host systems via the internet. The Pocket
PC scanner touts Microsoft's built in Pocket Internet Explorer,
while a variety of third party browsers are available for the Palm
scanner.
Wireless Versions
Both the Pocket PC and Palm mobile scanners
are available with either integrated wireless 802.11b LAN or cellular
wide area network options. RF terminal emulators are availble on
both platforms for easy integration with legacy mainframe or AS/400
systems.
